2024 Painting Contract Addendums and Attachments

Painting Contractors can encounter many different conditions on a painting project. Because of this, it is important they have the right collection of contract addendums and attachments to add, as necessary, to meet those conditions.

You need protections if hazardous substances are suspected or encountered. You need protection from choices your customer does and does not make based on your suggestions as the painting expert. What happens, for example, if you discover severely chalking paint on the exterior of a home during power washing and recommend the homeowner pay for you to apply a surface conditioner to the exterior before applying the finish coat of paint.  The customer tells you, after you give them the price for the surface conditioner coat, to just do the best job you can removing the chalky paint with the power washing then go ahead and apply the paint.  "It will last as long as we are living here", they say, and "we don't want to put any more money into this house."  Now, as the expert, you know the job will not last and that it is only a matter of time before the paint peels of the chalky surfaces.  So, you have two choices. 

First, you can attempt to cancel the contract, with the customers mutual consent... and second, you can do as they say and paint over the chalk. Trying to cancel a contract can be difficult if the homeowner does not want to cancel it. If you choose to do the work, against your recommendations, as instructed by the homeowner, we offer an addendum for that which holds your painting company harmless for any consequences of doing the work as the customer wants.... namely, peeling paint. 

If you are doing work on a time & material basis, we include addendums to attach to the contract for this work that details exactly what will be included as a charge when submitting an invoice. Most disputes on a T&M based paint job involve what and at what rate the property owner will be responsible to pay.  Our Cost of Work Addendums clearly inform the customer about what exactly they are responsible to pay for!
